Shelby Taylor is a multifaceted artist from Brigham City, Utah, with a journey spanning coast to coast. With a rich background in performing arts, Shelby's artistic practice revolves around celebrating the essence of humanity and fostering interconnectedness through intimate experiences. Drawing inspiration from her diverse experiences living in artistically rich cities such as San Francisco, New York City, and Los Angeles, Shelby infuses her work with a unique blend of perspectives and influences.
A product of esteemed institutions including Northwest Dance Project, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, Broadway Dance Center, Millennium Dance Complex Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, BYU's Contemporary Dance Theater, Movement Lifestyle, Edge Performing Arts Center and more, Shelby's artistic journey has been defined by a commitment to continuous learning, exposure, and growth.
As the founder of Burnswood Studio, Shelby has carved out a space for DIY creators to thrive, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit and knack for community-building. Renovating and managing the space firsthand, she has provided a platform for emerging artists, including members of her own company, Fleet Cooperative, to shine. In the year 2023, Shelby produced four solo dance shows at Burnswood Studio: “-22+” by Shelby Taylor, “Stanczyk” by Myles Tracy, “Sunday School” by Jace Chadwick, and “Where Love Lived First” by Joey Anderson.
Shelby's role as founder of Fleet Cooperative underscores her dedication to collaborative art-making. Through this local performing arts co-op, she orchestrates performances that resonate deeply with audiences, with their debut production, “Monomyth”, receiving accolades and community acclaim last November.
Shelby wears many hats as a freelance dancer, choreographer, instructor, director, videographer, photographer, and editor. Her diverse skill set and unwavering passion for the arts continue to fuel her journey, inspiring others to find their own voice and create meaningful connections through the power of storytelling and movement.
